S34 is nearly over, it's time to review it.
Cold numbers:
- Points at end of season: 844 (PB, previous best was 469 (S32)).
- Results: 10 (PB, previous best was 8 (S28)
- Wins: 2
This has been my first season with a proper tour rider, it has been nice.
Gerwin Lute gave me third in Monte Rosa Tour, a stage win and YC win. This gave me He also racked up a fifth place in Perm Tour after a slight crack from podiums on the last day. He also got a third place in one of the stages and a third place in YC. Perm Tour ended up on a sour note though, as he was doing really well in the first half of the tour, leading GC going into the crucial ITT-stage where I had hoped TT-frame would secure a decent result. Off day ensued and everything was ruined.
During the season Gerwin Lute also gave me second in Tour of Hawaii, a classic, and a second in Åsane Grand prix G3.
Another notable performer this season was Kelsey Freeny.
He surprised me in the Monte Rosa Tour prologue Bern Prologue by becoming the team's best rider in second place, despite not being TT-centered. He also racked up a 5th and a 7th in two sprinter stages in Monte Rosa Tour, earning me some unexpected cash:
Total direct income from him this season: $13500.
Not a lot, but as I did not expect anything from him it was a nice bonus.
During this season I also acquired and trained a new talent: Philip De Weert. My hope was for him to surpass Gerwin Lute as a GC candidate, but unfortunately he AVmaxed a little bit too soon. He ended up as a 203 climber and should therefore be more than acceptable in climbing races as well as serving as an excellent domestique for Gerwin Lute in tours. Still, considering his potentials he could have been so much more. Slight disappointment.
Note to self: Do the math on training points needed when evaluating new trainees. As I understand it any rider can be trained 60-180 points before avmaxing. This is completely random. I need to be more on top of this and make an estimation before committing to a trainee. I.e. I need to be sure my trainee can be somewhat useful even if he AVmaxes after being trained 60 points.
All in all an okay S34 has been the season where I made it to Division 3 and surprisingly managed to stay, racking up some okay results along the way as well.
It is really odd, I found it more difficult to get results in div6-5 than I do in div3.
Now about goals for the following season:
1) Get into some tours and try out my new captain/superdomestique-combination for real.
2) Try to maintain my position in div3. If i can't, at least accidentally time the relegation so that I can get into some tours in div4.
3) Obtain another trainee, preferable with some hill skill to round off my climber-train, or
4) save money for more equipment, either a climber's frame (too expensive) or a TT-wheel (probably feasible).

Nice to see how good Lute is doing! You have a good thing going on with your climbing squad, De Weert can still be a decent captain in CL/DH races!
